Never Stop Learning

The FirstHand Teachers Institute focuses on understanding the 21st century career and workplace skills that today’s students need to be successful. This three day, experiential program gives teachers an opportunity to be immersed in the thriving innovation ecosystem at the Science Center. In addition to visiting labs, talking with Science Center-based researchers and professionals, and getting hands-on experience in the FirstHand Learning Lab, participants have the chance to engage with relevant workplace skills and workshop new lesson plans. Educators leave the institute with the knowledge and ability to implement skill-based STEM learning into their classrooms.

Following each program, the Science Center will continue to provide support as participants begin to implement new lessons and activities in their classrooms.  One-on-one follow-up calls with the FirstHand team as well as an in-person meeting a few months later will allow the group to discuss successes and challenges, identify next steps, and organize for future usage of the Science Center’s many resources.

The FirstHand Teachers Institute is supported by the William Penn Foundation.

Enlightening. More refreshing than all other PDs.

A fantastic program! Brainstorming with my colleagues, meeting and speaking with STEM professionals, and engaging in hands on activities helped me prepare to motivate my students. I am excited about taking the skills and information I acquired back to the classroom. My 7th graders are going to love the real world applications we discuss!
